State Teams Success for Carlile Duo

Leon MacAlister and Nick Jennens enjoyed a fantastic weekend of racing with the NSW State swimming team. The boys joined with Carlile Head Swimming Coach Justin Rothwell took on the best youngsters from around Australia and New Zealand.

Both the boys had an amazing swim meet collecting a grand total of 12 gold medals between them.

MacAlister won the 50m, 100m, 200IM and 200m backstroke and freestyle events. Setting new National State Teams records in all of the backstroke events. Leon also broke the Carlile open club record in the 50m backstroke. Also as a team members MacAlister went undefeated for the whole weekend picking up gold medals for the 4×100 free and IM relays plus the very exciting 8×50 mixed freestyle relay to finish the meet.

Nick Jennens also had a great meet winning two gold medals in the 4×100 free and the 4×100 IM relays. Nicks split of 51.77 was very impressive in anchoring the team to an upset victory over the Queenslanders!

Leon now spends the rest of the week with the Australian talent ID squad in Canberra. This week they will be focussing on skill acquisition.

So congratulations boys on some terrific swimming against the best Australian and New Zealand juniors.

Go Carlile!

Justin Rothwell.
