The 2016 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Championships were held in Adelaide from the 28th of March to the 4th of April. The Carlile Swimming Club had 34 athletes competing. Special mention must go to Leon MacAlister who set a new Australian Age record in the 15years boys 100m Backstroke! Leon swum a time of 56.59, defeating the previous record set by Olympian Dan Arnamnart. Well done Leon!

Winning a medal at Age Nationals is an outstanding achievement. Carlile won a total of 21 medals, 20 individual and 1 relay! Congratulations to the following athletes on their performances:

  • Charli Brown: 3 medals (Gold 100m BK, Silver 200m BK & Bronze 200m IM)
  • Nick Jennens: 10 medals (Gold 200m BK, Gold 100m BK, Gold 400m FR, Gold 200m FR, Silver 100m BF, Silver 1500m FR, Silver 200m BF, Bronze 200m IM, Bronze 100m FR & Bronze 4x100m FR Relay)
  • Leon MacAlister: 7 medals (Gold 200m BK, Gold 100m BK, Gold 50m FR, Silver 100m FR, Silver 200m FR, silver 200m IM & Bronze 4x100m FR Relay)
  • Mia Rolfe: 1 medal (Gold 100m BK)
  • Callum Sherington: 1 medal (Silver 400m IM)
  • Tom Lockhart: 1 medal (Bronze 4x100m FR Relay)
  • Nathan Taplin: 1 medal (Bronze 4x100m FR Relay)

Overall Carlile finished in 5th place on the Club Point Score, and 1st out of all NSW clubs! A final congratulations to all the swimmers who competed last week, to qualify for Nationals is an exceptional achievement in itself. Once again, congratulations to the whole Carlile team on another fantastic performance! And good luck to the Carlile team competing at the Olympic Trials later this week!
