Penrith was at its best once again! The skies were clear, the breeze was light and the water temp was a balmy 23 degrees. The conditions were favourable for the Carlile Team with 23 swimmers competing in the Metro South West Open Water Series.
The Young guns started off with Pia Lenarduzzi, Charlie Brown and Annika Tonuri all finishing in the top ten for the 2.5km. Pia was 1st Girl and 2nd overall, Charlie was 5th Girl and 6th Overall and Annika was 6th Girl and 7th overall. Well done Girls. Dennis Hui was our youngest Carlile competitor and did a great job, placing 5th in the 11years Boys. It was all the first time for all of them, swimming in an Open Water event.
Oliver Boyce (1st time Open Water National), Matt Chant and Alex Nicholls were in the 5km and both Oli and Matt cruised it in to make Open Water National times, while Alex made his first State Open Water time. Jasmine Follett, Ashley Roestorf and Georgia Crowley all made State times.
The last group of Carlile swimmers had a lot of first timers to Open Water. Luke Hurley, Harry Crowley, Jake Walsh, Aiden Marley, Rhiannon Marshall-Witte (Ist Time Open Water National), Indianna Marshall-Witte, Claire Matthews(DNF), Lili Nicholls, Kathleen Beckman, Tiarna Darley(DNF), Rebecca Chant (1st Time Open Water National), Mayu Fujinami, Cara Sutherland (1st Time Open Water National).
Every one of them achieved their State Open Water time. And now we have 4 new National Open Water Swimmers to add to our team.
A great effort everybody!
