Carlile’s head swimming coach is Justin Rothwell. Justin has served on the Board of Directors of NSW ASTCA for the past 4 years. Justin was the President during the 2007 – 2008 season and provided tremendous leadership. Justin has also served on the Swimming NSW Board of Directors. He has done an outstanding job at developing both age group and open swimmers in New South Wales for the past 18 years, developing Championship level swimmers and teams at Campbelltown, Roselands, Macquarie Fields, Ashfield and Liverpool Clubs, Liverpool captured runners up honours in the point score at the 2008 NSW Summer Metropolitan Championships and the 13 – 18 State Age Championships in January. Justin’s swimmers won more medals at the 2008 Australian Age Championships than any other club in New South Wales. Justin Has extensive educational credentials and has been instrumental in organising and managing many successful Coaches conferences and clinics. He has been assigned numerous Coaching positions for Australian swimming including the 2006 Commonwealth Games and has been a regular on the NSW travelling team Coaching Staff for the past 8 years.
Michelle Thomas has been coaching since 1989 when she first started her Ass. Diploma in Applied Science – Sports coaching, specialising in swimming. She worked with the Aquadot swim club for 5 years and in between gained a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport(AIS) 1992 – 1993, as part of women in sport program. Here she worked alongside Olympic coaches and swimmers gaining her Silver Licence and a Graduate Diploma of Sports Coaching. Michelle has also coached at the Brothers swim club, Ryde Swim Club and Manly Jetz swim club over the years, working with all levels of squads.
Mike joined Carlile Swimming in 2009 as a teacher and coach at Killarney Heights in a casual capacity. During this time Mike was studying and attained a double degree in Science and Education from the University of New South Wales. Mike developed a passion for swim coaching when he began to work with the junior squads, mainly Bronze Transition. Mike is an ASCTA Bronze licensed coach, who is also currently studying a Masters in Sports Coaching through Griffith University. Mike has been promoted to Assistant Coach, he will be involved in coaching all squad levels, however, his primary role will be as the assistant coach of the Gold Squad.
Michael has worked with Carlile Swimming since 1999, but has a long association with swimming, being a Life Member of the Avalon/Bilgola Amateur Swimming Club. Michael is Austswim accredited and an ASCTA Bronze Licence coach, and has managed the NSW Swimsafe Program for four years. Michael currently coaches Superfish and Sharks, but is an integral support coach for Bronze, Silver and Gold Squads.
Ryo was born in Japan and is a university graduate in Information Technology. On moving to Australia in 2000, Ryo pursued his interest in swimming, joining Carlile Swimming at Killarney Heights, where he has taught and coached all levels. Ryo was ‘Employee of the Year ‘ in 2003 and Austswim ‘Rookie Swimming Teacher of the Year’ in 2004. Ryo is an ASCTA Bronze and Silver Licence Coach, Ryo has been promoted to Assistant Coach, he will still focus on the Bronze squad but now will have further involvement with the Gold squad.
