Senior Coach Michelle Thomas has been coaching since 1989 and has completed an Associate Diploma in Applied Science – Sports coaching, specialising in swimming and a Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching while working at the Australian Institute of Sport. Here she worked alongside Olympic coaches and swimmers gaining her Silver Licence. In recent years Michelle was awarded a Women Leaders in Sport individual grant by the Australian Sports Commission which she utilised to take part in a Resilient Leadership program though the Melbourne University School of Business. Michelle has coached numerous swimmers at Narrabeen since 2010 working with junior, age and national performance squads.
Senior Coach Ryo Kito was born in Japan and is a university graduate in Information Technology. On moving to Australia in 2000, Ryo pursued his interest in swimming, joining Carlile Swimming at Killarney Heights, where he has taught and coached all levels. Ryo was ‘Employee of the Year ‘ in 2003 and Austswim ‘Rookie Swimming Teacher of the Year’ in 2004 and received ASCTA ‘JX Gold Coach of the year award’ in 2009. Ryo is an ASCTA Bronze and Silver Licence Coach, along with the Open Water and Coaching Swimmers with a Disability coaching accreditations. Ryo has coached numerous swimmers since 2008 working with junior, age and national performance squads.
Renato has a long background in swimming having been a swimmer himself in his native Brazil through childhood and while studying at university in Marketing and Sports Management. Renato has lived in Sydney for the past 14 years and has worked as a coach on the Northern Beaches at Harbord Diggers, Warringah Aquatic Centre and Terrey Hills. Renato is a keen surfer and likes to keep fit by swimming in the ocean swim series each summer.
Michael has worked with Carlile Swimming since 1999, but has a long association with swimming, being a Life Member of the Avalon/Bilgola Amateur Swimming Club. Michael is Austswim accredited and an ASCTA Bronze Licence coach, and has managed the NSW Swimsafe Program for four years. Michael currently coaches Superfish and Sharks, but is an integral support coach for Bronze, Silver and Gold Squads.
