2016 Development Day at Killarney Swim Centre

Twenty-eight young future swimming stars aged between 8 and 11 were selected for this years Development Day held at Killarney Swim Centre on Wednesday 28th September. Coaches Ryo, Nao, Matt, Jess and Hannah (Killarney Heights), were all very excited to meet another talented group again this year.

Their day began with lectures from the coaches about stroke correction and techniques.  Many kids showed their passion for swimming with the numerous thoughtful questions they asked of the coaches. This was followed by gentle dry land stretching under the beautiful sun followed by the first part of the pool session. Coaches emphasized some basic skills such as streamlining and underwater kicking. In the main part of the pool session swimmers were split into three rotating groups; Butterfly/Backstroke, Breaststroke/Freestyle and IM.  They learnt the different IM turns and many other skills, drills and techniques.  At the end of the pool session Coaches Nao and Jessie jumped in to join in the fun with a Boys vs Girls relay. After a very exciting “dead heat” racing, the boys just tipped out the girls at the finish!

Despite the pool session being so much longer than their regular training sessions, all swimmers had huge smiles when they finally emerged from the water.  After the final pool session Ryo gave the parents and swimmers further information about competitive swimming at the Carlile Swimming Club, using a short photo-slideshow made by Coach Matt. As always, the day concluded with a much loved and well earned “Pizza party”!!

The coaches received lots of positive feedback from parents and swimmers afterward and look forward to seeing these bright youngsters as members of the “orange and blue” team in the near future!

Thank you to all the parents and swimmers for committing their school holiday time to this fabulous day.  Lastly, WELL DONE to all the Coaches. We ran another successful program this year with fantastic team work!
